Global news – Greek Team Dissemination – Breaking the NEET Circle

1. Can you give us your opinion about the project “Breaking the NEET Cycle” and your Erasmus+ experience?

The experience of this project was valuable! We learned many things at the NEET training course, such as:

-Identify and prevent the NEET’s situation
-How the NEET’s problem affects our different countries
-The difference between coach, mentor, and therapist

The most exciting thing was the cultural night,we tried local food and dances, and we shared with our friends our local traditions. We laughed, celebrated, and danced all together. It was an opportunity to get to know each other better. It also was an opportunity to have fun together and to do a different activity compared to the others. We are very thankful that we have the opportunity to participate in this project and we appreciate the knowledge and positive energy and moments that we have.

2. How has your perspective on young people in NEET situations changed as a result of participating in this training course? What were the most valuable takeaways from the course for you personally ?

Prior to my participation in the training programme, I had a general idea about young people in the NEET situation, but I did not have a deeper understanding of the causes and consequences of this situation. Through the programme, I learned a lot about the barriers that NEET young people face, both on a personal and socio-economic level. One of the most significant changes that occurred in my perspective is the understanding that NEET status is not an option for young people. Most young people in this situation want to work and contribute to society, but face a number of barriers that prevent them from doing so.Finally, my participation in the programme made me realize that young people in NEET status deserve our attention and support. They have a lot to offer to society and should be given the opportunity to achieve their goals.

The most valuable takeaways from the seminar for me personally are the importance of
compassion and understanding towards young people in NEET situations, the need to provide support and opportunities for these young people to improve their lives and the importance of cooperation between different agencies to tackle the problem of NEET. These takeaways have helped me to change my perspective on young people in NEET situations.Overall, the seminar gave me a more comprehensive view of the NEET problem and helped me to better understand how I can contribute to tackling the problem. I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the seminar and I believe it will give me a significant advantage in my work with young people in NEET.

3. In your opinion, what are some effective methods to engage young NEETs and prevent other young people from falling into NEET situations ?

Different methods are necessary to engage young NEETs and prevent others from getting into similar circumstances. First, I believe mentoring programs help young people take note of their interests. Training programs that increase employability are also necessary. Social events encourage friendships, and in that way, they establish a mutually supportive group for those at risk of becoming NEETS. Additionally, offering internships from local businesses can fill the gap between higher education and the working world. With those methods, communities can help young people get empowered and overcome NEET situations.
