Can you give us your opinion about the project “World of Equality”?
The project, in my opinion, was executed well. The organizers were very professional, respectful, and helpful, helping to create a safe and positive environment for all participants. They especially excelled in organising team activities and cultural exchange activities. However, I found that the project lacked a concrete structure, as I was not notified beforehand about the schedule of the course, timetable, and activities that would take place. If this aspect would be improved upon, in my opinion, the training course would be just perfect. It provides full and sufficient basic knowledge about equality, and the information is presented in a way that is accessible for everyone as well as engaging and thought-provoking. For me it was a great first experience of training courses and one that I would gladly repeat again.
Why is promoting equality and diversity so important for the wellbeing of our societies?
It is my belief that diversity and equality are two essential components to maintaining a fair, inclusive democratic society that is prosperous and just for everyone. If everyone in the society is treated fairly and with respect, regardless of their gender, race, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs, this society becomes more harmonious. Embracing and appreciating different cultures and ways of life is crucial to building a peaceful and loving community where everyone feels safe and welcomed. This leads to a more inclusive society where everyone’s needs are met and everyone can participate and contribute in equal measure. Thus, with increased contribution it is possible to achieve higher social and economic progress. Tolerant and inclusive societies have lower levels of poverty and crime, higher levels of innovation and economic growth, as well as higher happiness levels in citizens. Therefore, promoting equality is not only important, but in my opinion essential to enhancing the state of the world.
What is the most important thing you have learned during the training? How do you plan to share and use your knowledge?
I feel like I developed multiple soft skills and, most importantly, greatly increased my communication ability. During the training course, I participated in a debate for the first time. This was undoubtedly a valuable experience to me, because not only did I learn the rules and structure of debates, I was also able to try myself in this form of discussion. In my opinion, debating is a great way to foster constructive discussion and educate people on variuous topics in a respectful and open manner. Seeing that myself and my fellow participants of the training course learned many new things as a result of the debate, I was convinced that debates are a very effective way of learning and fostering meaningful conversations. From now on, I plan to participate in more debates and host them among my university peers. Given that the topic of the training course was equality, I will use my newfound knowledge of equality to educate and spread awareness through debates and other practices such as workshops and presentations.
